How to Make a Candle

Simple Container Candle Step-by-Step (Beginner-Friendly)

Prep First

1. Cover your workspace with newspaper/parchment paper (wax is sticky!). Clean and dry your heat-safe container completely—no moisture

2. Secure the pre-tabbed wick to the bottom center of the container with a wick sticker or a dot of hot glue; let it set for 10 seconds. Thread the top of the wick through a wick centering tool  to keep it straight/centered—this is critical for even burning

Melt the Wax

3. Set up a boiler or heater: Fill a small pot ¼ full with water, bring to a gentle simmer (no rolling boil). Place a heat-safe bowl on top

⚠️ Make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water

4. Stir slowly with a wooden stick until it’s fully melted (no solid chunks left)

Customize (Optional)

5. If adding candle dye: Stir in 1–2 drops or a tiny chip/pinch until fully blended—start small (you can add more if needed)

6. If adding fragrance oil: Let wax cool slightly then stir in oil for 1–2 minutes

Pour & Set

7. Slowly pour the melted wax into the prepared container

8. Let the candle cool completely at room temperature—this takes 4–24 hours

⚠️ Do not refrigerate/freeze—causes cracks

Final Steps

9. Once fully harden, remove the centering tool and trim the wick to ¼ inch (6mm) with scissors

10. Light Your Candle!

Quick Safety Note

⚠️ Never leave melting wax unattended; keep away from kids/pets

⚠️ Burn the finished candle on a heat-safe surface, away from flammables

⚠️ Don’t burn for more than 4 hours at a time

⚠️ Leave space between flammable decoration and wick

⚠️ Don't add water or cooling material to a melting wax - cause chemical explosion
